This month saw NI-CO welcome a delegation from the Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) in Amman to Northern Ireland as part of our EU funded social protection project.
Headed by Secretary-General, Barq Dmour, the group met with key bodies and organisations across Northern Ireland that provide, regulate and inspect social work services. The itinerary focused on key areas of particular interest to the MoSD as they strive to improve the professionalism of current social care provision in Jordan namely governance and De-institutionalisation and the transformation of care for persons with disabilities into community-based, inclusive services.
As well as meetings with the Department of Health and Social Care, the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC), the British Association of Social Work and the Regulation and Quality Assurance Authority, delegates witnessed first-hand the impressive supported living programmes offered by the Cedar Foundation.
Meeting with permanent secretary, Mr Peter May, Mr Barq Dmour expressed his appreciation to NI-CO and to the Northern Ireland Civil Service for their continued support in Jordan’s social work agenda and efforts to improve the lives of vulnerable Jordanians. He extended his gratitude to the hosts of the study programme who provided them with the opportunity to debate the day to day challenges of effective social care provision and how to best operationalise the Kingdom’s National Social Protection Strategy.
